What The Provider Says:
Springboard Schools, previously The Bay Area School Reform Collaborative (BASRC), is committed to improving the academic performance of all Bay Area students and eliminating the predictability of achievement gaps between student groups. BASRC works with educators from a diverse network of schools and districts. We seek to provide education leaders -- including teachers, administrators, students, parents and community members -- with access to the ideas, tools and support they need to make continuous improvement "business as usual" in public education.

BASRC seeks to create more vital, innovative and effective schools and classrooms; to raise student achievement and narrow the gap in performance between children of color, poor children, English language learners and their higher-achieving peers; and to create a more equitable system of schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Though our goals remain constant, BASRC is committed to providing schools and districts with flexible support that helps the education system respond to changing policy mandates, funding levels, demographics, and local needs and priorities.

BASRC is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 1995 and is located in San Francisco, California. The organization receives major support from the Palo Alto-based William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and from the Annenberg Foundation of St. Davids, Pennsylvania.

BASRC provides professional development services to assist educators in improving their expertise in areas proven to increase student and school performance. These areas include leadership, effective practices and core curriculum. We believe professional development should be research-based, yet focused on implementing and sustaining specific, strategically selected changes in practice to improve student achievement and accelerate the learning of the lowest performing students.

The Classroom Cycle of Inquiry is a continuous improvement process that enables teachers to use data to identify a skills gap in their classrooms, and explore an inquiry questions around which to study their teaching practices. This eight-week course is designed for teachers, principals, reform coordinators and coaches who want to learn how and why to engage in inquiry and the steps involved in carrying out a classroom Cycle of Inquiry.

The BASRC Networks are open to all professional learning communities who focus on engaging in collaborative inquiry, with the goal of improving our professional practice and creating a more equitable system of schools in the Bay Area.

The BASRC Teacher Leader Network (formally known as the Local Collaborative Coaches Network) is a professional learning community of field-based coaches, many of whom are teacher leaders, reform coordinators, or classroom teachers with release time to work with colleagues.

The Principals’ Network is open to principals, assistant principals, and other school leaders and is focused on the challenges of leading a systematic process of improving the quality of instruction in schools.

The BASRC District Leaders Network is a forum for superintendents, assistant superintendents, school board members and other district staff to collaborate on solutions to district-level reform challenges.

Superintendents and assistant superintendents from our six focal districts can participate in a smaller and more intensive study group that meets monthly and is supported by an online learning community.
