What The Provider Says:

Excelsior was founded in Texas in 1986 as a partnership, and incorporated the next year. The company remains privately owned by its founders who initially created one of the first grading software programs called Excelsior Grade. For several years, IBM marketed Excelsior Grade for use with its networking products.

In 1992 a second generation product, Gradebook2, was developed for the Windows and Macintosh platforms. The focus of the new design was to build enough flexibility into the data and configuration aspects of the product to allow for school-wide scalability. The original design work continues to maintain Gradebook2 as the most configurable and flexible computerized grade book product on the market.

In 1994, a joint market research project involving IBM, Excelsior and the local phone company in a south suburb of Chicago provided real time grades to parents via a new networking protocol called ISDN. The software tools created by Excelsior during this project became the basis for the Pinnacle System and optional Viewers. The Pinnacle concept has since been expanded to a fully developed ODBC SQL based client/server technology, and continues to be the only successful way to uniformly distribute and maintain electronic assessment data for teachers, administrators, students, and parents in a large-scale environment.

Today Excelsior is headquartered in Greeley, CO and is home to more than 40 employees.
